Commodity Supplemental Food Program Comes to Utah
Nutritious food boxes to be distributed to seniors and children

March 31, 2010

The Utah Department of Health (UDOH) has received federal funding from the United States Department of Agriculture to administer the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) throughout the state of Utah. Food distribution will begin on Wednesday, March 31, at the Bountiful Food Pantry located at: 480 East 150 North in Bountiful, between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm.

Individuals interested in the program should bring photo identification, proof of income and a current mortgage/lease receipt or utility bill. In the upcoming months, food will be distributed to San Juan and Grand Counties in southeastern Utah; the Salt Lake Valley, and Davis and Weber Counties.

The purpose of the Commodity Supplemental Food Program is to improve the health and meet the nutritional needs of low-income pregnant, post-partum and breastfeeding women, and infants and children from birth to their sixth birthday. The program also provides benefits to eligible seniors who are 60 years old and older.

The United States Department of Agriculture provides nutritious commodity foods to supplement the diets of these individuals in our community. The UDOH has partnered with the Utah Food Bank to provide certification and food box distribution to eligible participants.
