Did you know using your SNAP card to purchase healthy food can actually save you money? With Double Up Food Bucks, SNAP participants can do just that!
Double Up Food Bucks is a program that helps stretch SNAP shoppers’ budgets while making produce more affordable. Double Up Food Bucks just expanded to its first Utah grocery store in June and is rolling out to two additional stores this month. Davis Food and Drug’s chain of grocery stores is piloting the first retail Double Up Food Bucks program in Utah where shoppers will receive an automatic 25% discount on fresh produce purchased with their SNAP card. You can find their three store locations in LaVerkin, Roosevelt, and Vernal, Utah.
Double Up is offered at farmers markets in several other Utah counties as well! At participating farmers markets, SNAP recipients can earn extra money in the form of Double Up Food Bucks that they can use to buy more fresh produce from local farmers. For every $1 of SNAP used on any SNAP eligible products, shoppers will earn an additional $2 of Double Up Food Bucks to use on fresh fruits and vegetables, up to $20 per day.
The Double Up Food Bucks program is managed by the Community Food Security Program team at the Utah Department of Health and Human Services. They also oversee two other produce incentive programs: ProduceRx and the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program. For more information on these programs, visit https://dhhs.utah.gov/communityfood/
